Educational purpose

Everything published on CreditBrief is for general information and education. It is not personalized financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice, and it is not an offer or solicitation to buy or apply for any financial product.

Our articles describe how products and rules generally work in the United States. They cannot account for your income, obligations, tax position, credit history, state of residence or goals — all of which change the right answer. Before acting on anything you read here, consider your own circumstances and, where the decision warrants it, consult a qualified professional.

No professional advisory relationship

Reading CreditBrief, subscribing to our newsletter or contacting us does not create a professional advisory relationship of any kind. Nobody on our editorial staff is presented as a certified financial planner, certified public accountant, attorney, licensed banker or registered investment adviser, and no member of our staff holds themselves out as one on this site.

Financial product terms change

Credit card and banking terms — APRs, annual fees, transaction fees, rewards rates, sign-up bonuses, benefit schedules and eligibility requirements — are set by issuers and change frequently, often without notice.

For this reason we deliberately avoid publishing specific product terms as though they were durable facts. Where an article discusses live terms, treat the discussion as illustrative and verify current details on the issuer’s own page before applying. The issuer’s disclosure table is the only source that is current by definition.

Financial products carry costs and risks

Credit and deposit products involve real obligations. In particular:

  • Credit cards charge interest on balances that carry over, and rates commonly run above 20% APR.
  • Fees may apply for late payments, cash advances, foreign transactions, balance transfers and annual membership.
  • Approval, credit limits and pricing depend on the issuer’s own criteria and your credit profile.
  • Missed payments can be reported to credit bureaus and remain on your credit report for years.
  • Rewards programs can be changed or devalued by the issuing company at any time.

Nothing on this site should be read as a promise about approval odds, rates you will receive, or the value you will obtain from any rewards program.

Advertising

CreditBrief displays advertising. Ads are labelled “Advertisement” and are visually separated from editorial content. Advertisers have no influence over what we publish or what we conclude, and no advertiser reviews articles before publication.

Third-party advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure advertising. Our cookie policy explains what these do and how to control them, and you can change your choices at any time from the link in the site footer.

Affiliate relationships

As of the last update to this page, CreditBrief has no affiliate relationships with any credit card issuer, bank or financial institution, and receives no commission when a reader applies for a product.

We do not claim relationships we do not have. If we enter into affiliate arrangements in future, we will:

  • State it clearly on this page, with the date it began;
  • Place a prominent disclosure at the top of every article containing affiliate links;
  • Mark affiliate links so they are identifiable;
  • Keep compensation out of decisions about what we cover and what we conclude.

Our editorial standards describe the separation between commercial arrangements and editorial judgment in full.

Sources and accuracy

We cite primary sources — U.S. government agencies, regulators and official documentation — wherever a fact is set by law or published by a federal body. We do not fabricate statistics, studies, rates or policies. If you believe something on this site is inaccurate, please tell us: see our corrections policy.

Third-party links

We link to external sites, including government resources and issuer documentation. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices.
