Credit Cards

Interest, fees, rewards and approvals — the mechanics behind every offer.

A credit card is one of the few financial products that can either cost you nothing or cost you hundreds of dollars a year, depending entirely on how you use it. That gap is where this section lives.

We explain the mechanics first — how a billing cycle works, when interest is actually charged, what an APR represents, which fees are avoidable — and only then get into which type of card suits which type of spender. We do not chase issuer marketing. Card terms change constantly, so our guides teach you how to read an offer rather than asking you to trust a number we published months ago.
